Open Question: How to fix the ps2 dvd player?

For about 2 months my ps2 fat version has not been playing dvds. It about 2 weeks ago played a copy of idiocracy from the video store. But last night i bought billy madison and happy gilmore(I love adam sandler) and neither of them would play so i was fed up and cleaned the laser and it would still not play. It works perfectly for games and ok for cd's but not for dvds.Could idiocracy work because of the video store labels???
